Byron Hudson Rainwater, Jr. passed away on February 6, 2016.Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.at Kilpatrick Funeral Home.Mr. Rainwater was born in Dubach, Louisiana on February 14, 1922 and passed away on February 6, 2016 in Ruston.. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Marjorie Marie Brown Rainwater. Also his parents Byron Hudson Rainwater, Sr. and Elizabeth James Rainwater, sisters Margaret Rainwater Fuller and Elizabeth Rainwater Roane. Survived by two sons, Charles Byron Rainwater, of Ruston, and Marshall Howard Rainwater of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Carol Lynn Rainwater Gorgal and her husband, Ralph, of Mesquite, Texas, and Rebecca Anne Rainwater Pesnell and her husband, Ricky, of Ruston; four grandchildren, CJ Gorgal and Mary Gorgal of Mesquite, Texas, Ashley Hinton and Trevor Pesnell of Ruston, LA; and one great-granddaughter, Alyssa LeBlanc of Houma, LA. Also, sister-in-law, Carolyn Weir of Irving, Texas; one nephew, Tom Sumrall of Ruston and nieces, Jane Ball of Ruston, LA, Elizabeth Davenport of Russellville, Arkansas, Margaret Anne Emory of Ruston, Marjorie Weir and Frances Weir of Irving, Texas and Catherine Colaianni of Keller, Texas. He attended Hillcrest Elementary, A.E. Phillips, and graduated from Ruston High School. He went on to graduate Louisiana Tech University in 1942. Employed by Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C. for several months, and left to enter military service for WWII. Served at Selman Field, Biloxi, Philippines Island, and Okinawa. He returned to Ruston in 1947, and opened an insurance and real estate agency. After receiving training at LSU and Ole Miss, he was hired by the State of Louisiana to begin appraisal work on the future I-20 construction. He later received the first appraisal designation in the area and was the founding member of the Ouachita chapter of the Society of Residential Appraisers. After being employed by various government appraisal and lending agencies, for several years he became a member of the Appraisal Institute. In 1980, he left the appraisal field and continued in real estate management and sales. He was active in community service. He served the special needs community as President and board member of LARC for many years. He served as the Red Cross chairman, President of Ruston Realtors, President of Ouachita Society of Residential Appraisers, member of Ruston Kiwanis Club for over 50 years, Board member for Council on Aging, Treasurer for Ruston Chamber of Commerce, and manager of Lincoln Donated Dental Services for the Handicapped. He also served on the Methodist Board of Stewarts, and was a member of the Board of Deacons. Later, he served as Warden and Sr. Warden of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. His hobbies were golfing, his morning coffee group and his family. The family wishes to thank Mae Thomas and Linda Thomas along with her family for being part of our family for the past several years. We couldnt have done it without their love and devotion.
