Jean Sproles Hamilton was born in Ruston, Louisiana March 28, 1930. At a young age she moved with her parents to Delhi, Louisiana. She remained in Delhi until graduation from high school when she entered Blue Mountain College in north Mississippi. The motto for Blue Mountain was “Enter to learn, depart to serve” which was very fitting for the life of Jean.

Jean was a piano music major graduate from Blue Mountain College in May of 1951 and in August of that same year she married Dr. Doyle R. Hamilton, Jr. They began their married life in Belzoni, Mississippi and eventually came to live in Monroe in 1952.

Gigi, as she was known to all who knew her, always said her daddy taught her “to love myself and other people, and to laugh at myself and with other people.” She did indeed love to laugh! She was a joy to be around. Jean was a strong woman of faith and loved the Lord.

Gigi loved traveling with Doc and dressing him to match her outfit!!! Anyone who knew her knows she had a love for jewelry and shopping! They spent many years traveling all over the world. She was a “cheerleader” for all the things Doc was involved in throughout their marriage and for her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gigi was a member of Junior League of Monroe, Monroe Garden Club, Zeta Tau Alpha (honorary initiate), Monroe Symphony, Masur Museum, Parkview Baptist Church, Covenant Presbyterian Church and P.E.O. Chapter AZ. She loved playing bridge and hosting parties for anything!  She was also Delhi Livestock Show Queen. She always made us put our hands over our hearts when we would pass by Delhi!

The most important thing in Jean’s life was being a wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to celebrate ANYTHING.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Franklin Sproles and Eva Slayton Sproles, her husband Dr. Doyle R. Hamilton, her daughter Debbie Hamilton Pope and her grandson Justin Keith Christ.

She is survived by her children Brenda Hamilton Bonin and husband Keith of Monroe, and Doyle R. Hamilton, III (Trey) and wife Salley, of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Holly Campbell and husband Brian of Monroe, Lindsey Braddock and husband Brett of Monroe, Dr. Amy Christ of Monroe, Henry Bonin and wife Dr. Beth Piazza-Bonin of Denver, CO, Becky Flemister and husband Tyler of Monroe, and Erin Marx and husband Josh of Decatur, GA; great-grandchildren, Will Campbell, Stella Braddock, Thomas Campbell, Tarver Braddock, Sophia Bonin, Eva Christ, Jackson Christ, Madelyn Flemister, and Molly Flemister.

The family wishes to extend grateful appreciation to Shannon Newton and St. Joseph Hospice, Americare, especially Brittney Burnett, Jeanett Greenwood, RoShonda Daniel, Irene Cureington  and Jennifer Goodson.  They were all so loving in their care of our Gigi.

Visitation will be at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home Chapel 10-11 am Saturday, November 3, 2018. A private family burial will be held following.

Memorials can be made to the Doyle R. Hamilton scholarship fund at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, 7200 Desiard, Monroe, LA 71203 or a charity of your choice in memory of GiGi.

Thank you, God, for the gift of Gigi.   “May the Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent one from the other.”  Genesis 31:49
