I would like to pay tribute to my Uncle Ragan reflecting on Christmas 1986-I was pregnant with first child and it was an exciting time in my life as I eagerly awaited the birth of that child and began making preparations for God's gift. I came to visit from Houston to MaMaws Christmas gathering where the best cooks on the planet gathered for holidays and prepared their best dishes that would melt in your mouth...always a feast! Afterwards we were all ready for our gift exchange and Uncle Ragan, beaming, comes in with a wooden cradle and places it In front of me... He had carved it, designed and planned it, measured dolls that seemed same size as newborns, carved crescent moon and stars in each end, stained it , and it was not only a fine piece of workmanship and woodwork, but can you imagine the joy he extracted from me with this beautiful from the heart gift that came from this manly, strong man that had taken such care to every detail to be so precise with his project. My aunt Beverly had also made the precious baby blue and white heart bumper pads and white pillow to go inside it. I have it today, I used it for both sons and it will be used for my grandchildren they may one day have...it is a timeless heirloom, an unexpected surprise that came from the heart and I love it and wouldn't take a million for the joy I felt that day, that someone went to such an extreme to give to others, to me! This is a testament to the life my Uncle Ragan lived... Always thinking of and giving to others to make others happy... So many stories come flooding to mind and just thinking about his sense of fun and infectious laughter, his caring about people...My life is blessed to have had an Uncle Ragan! The story of his life is huge because there isn't a person ever met him that doesn't have a story to tell. He loved people and he loved his family. He took the earth and what God gave and made it bountiful. He shared his gift, and gave the thing he had to give - he gave of himself and in doing so created good times for so many. He will be missed. I celebrate his life and offer my prayers for all he family and his friends as we have lost a gem here in our earthly home while he has gone to be the Master Gardner in Heaven... We will see each other again!
