A memorial service for Phillip Allen Big AL Powell will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 27, 2015 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe with Bro. Kurt Auger and Bro. J R Wells officiating. A reception to follow at Paron Baptist Church, Sterlington, LA , all are welcome to attend and celebrate Allen life. Phillip Allen Big AL Powell made his journey to Heaven at home on August 22, 2015 at the age of 33.Allen is survived by his wife Shannon Powell, parents, Phillip and Anita Powell, brother, Tyler Merrell Powell of Sterlington Louisiana; Grandparents, Merrell and Betty McGuffee, Julia Mae Powell, James Douglas Powell Jr, Lester and Elaine Parks. Allen leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other loved relatives. Allen also leaves behind many many friends and his beloved dog Abby.Allen was born on August 31, 1981 in Monroe, Louisiana to Phillip and Anita Powell. Allen graduated from Sterlington High School in 2000. Allen married Shannon, a dental assistant on June 25, 2011. Allen worked for Renaissance Offshore as a Senior Lead Operator. Allen grew up in the woods and on the waters of Caldwell and Union Parish as a young boy. Allen accepted Christ July 20, 1989 as his Savior. As Allen continued to grow up, so did his love for the outdoors that never ended. Allen was the type of man that would literally give you his very last dollar. He wouldn't do it because he wanted you to like him, or because he wanted you to owe him. He never had a hidden agenda. I bet most people reading this now can name at least one time Allen helped you with something. Other people would never know it though, because while most would need to brag about what a nice thing they had done, Allen would just keep going about his day. It really did bring him joy to make the lives of others easier. I dont think enough credit is given to those that lead what is considered a “simple life”. Allen had no use for emails or social media. He kept up with friends and family by calling them, or going to see them. I can't tell you how many times, on a daily basis, someone has said, “I just talked to him”. Actually talked. Allen was not content to just read about your life. He wanted to sit on the porch with you and hear about it. He wanted to be a part of it with you. His true home was the woods and the water. When he wasn't hunting or fishing, he was talking about hunting or fishing. Hours and hours spent outside, taking in all the beauty God provides. He would take anyone who wanted to go, excited to show them his favorite places. If he was away from nature for long, you could feel him longing for it again. He would gaze out, towards the wilderness, like he heard it calling his name. As if it were calling him home. He understood Gods creations have much more to offer than the creations of man.Lastly, Allen was one of the most loving souls God ever created. If you were lucky enough to be called his family or friend, you knew he would love you for life. So many people treat love as something to be given or borrowed when needed. That is not the way it works. Allen knew that. He gave love the way it should be given, endless and with absolute certainty.We all need to learn and live these easy life lesson that Allen gave to those who knew him. Pallbearers will be all of Allen dear friends, that will carry Allen memory into the future.
