Graveside services for Vernie Mae Shores Smith, 84, of West Monroe, will be at 9:00 AM, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Hasley Cemetery Gazebo under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, with Reverend Andy Myrick officiating. Mrs. Smith was born August 5, 1930 in Waldron, Arkansas and died July 26, 2015. She was a member of Fair Park Baptist Church. When Mrs. Smith was able, she was active in numerous organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lesslie P. Smith, granddaughter, Alisha Kirby, and several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Gayle Green and husband Gary and Elaine Brown and husband Mitch; one grandson, Brian Kirby and wife Michelle; three granddaughters, Holly Moreno and husband Rudy, Toni Dahl and husband Tye, and Kami Diel; nine great-grandchildren, Aurora, Brian T., Allison, Mariana, Jonah, Gabriel, Caleb, Stormi, and Phoebe; one brother, Rex Shores of Zachary, and numerous nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fair Park Baptist Church Children fund.Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 28 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. I remember sitting with grandma outside and her strumming her guitar whilst singing Hank Williams Sr. I remember so much from having her in my life and I'm so thankful that I got to have her in my life for so long. I'm going to miss hearing her, smelling her rose powder and her giving me tickling kisses.
