It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Abbie Lloyd Bacon, Jr., fondly known as Lloyd, on October 7th, 2024. Born into a legacy of love and strength, Lloyd was the son of Abbie Lloyd Bacon Sr. and Daisy Blake Bacon, and brother to Doris Bacon Bray. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Kelly, but leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Julia Brotherston and Alexander Floyd.
Lloyd lived a remarkable life filled with diverse accomplishments. In his early years, he demonstrated his strength and athleticism as a talented boxer, once being asked to compete in the Olympics—an opportunity he humbly declined. He served his country with the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, a testament to his dedication and courage.
Upon returning from his service, Lloyd began his career at the local carpet mill, where his hard work and commitment were evident to all who knew him. His love for learning and passion for knowledge also led him to a position as a professor, where he touched many lives with his wisdom and compassion.
In addition to his parents Abbie and Daisy Blake Bacon, and daughter Elizabeth Kelly, Lloyd was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Mary Francis Sherman Bacon and Thomas Lafitte Bacon; his grandparents Steward Bacon and Maggie Farnell Bacon; his sister Doris Bacon Bray Dickinson; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He is survived by his grandchildren Julia and Alex; and two nephews. All mourn his passing alongside other surviving relatives and dear friends.
Though Lloyd faced loss throughout his life, his legacy lives on through his grandchildren and the countless lives he impacted as a mentor, professor, and friend. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, gentle heart, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.
