Alice Durbin Davis, age 89, went to her heavenly home on August 5th at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Houston, Texas. Alice was born March 16, 1928, in Friendship, Louisiana.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Jewel Durbin; her husband, Cecil; sister, Martiel Holland; brothers: Arnold, Douglas, and Leon Durbin; and her precious great-grandson, Mason Theodore Whatley.

Alice played on the basketball team and enjoyed studying history at Friendship High School where she graduated in 1945.

In 1946, Alice married William Cecil Davis. It was love at first sight. They met in March and married the following November. They truly loved each other with all their hearts.

In addition to being an excellent homemaker, loving wife and mother, she worked at J.E. Reeves State Farm Ins. Agency for more than 20 years. Through those years she enjoyed meeting and helping customers from Ruston and the surrounding areas.

While living in Ruston for more than 50 years, she and her husband were members of Cook Baptist Church where Alice and Cecil served in several capacities.

While living in Houston for the last 7 years, Alice enjoyed visiting with family, watching old westerns with her dear friend, Betty Pittman, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed phone chats with friends and family such as her special nieces: Denise Cooper, Shirley Humphrey, Janice Mercer, and Jayne Norwood.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Wanda Whatley and husband Gary; grandson, Kevin Whatley and wife, Shannon, of the Woodlands TX; grandson, Kyle Whatley and wife, Erica, of Austin, TX; and great-grandchildren: William, Reagan, Spencer, Evan, Mia, Kendall and Evelyn.

Alice’s family would like to express their heartfelt love and gratitude to Betty Pittman, who they all consider part of their family, for her unconditional love and friendship of Alice and their entire family.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, August 11, from 5 to 8 pm in Ruston, LA at Kilpatrick Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted on Saturday, August 12, at Kilpatrick at 1 pm.
