Charles E. Colvin, Jr. was born to Charles E. Colvin, Sr. and Cleo Clifton Colvin in Bernice, Louisiana on September 16, 1943 and left this world to be with his heavenly Father on January 7, 2020.Charles graduated from Bernice High School and then earned his Bachelor Science degree in Physical Education from Northeast Louisiana University where he was in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps. He received the rank of Captain and served one tour of duty in Vietnam in the Artillery. He returned home and fulfilled his three-year enlistment as an artillery instructor in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After his honorable discharge, he returned to north central Louisiana to earn a degree in Construction Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. He spent much of his professional life as a material control engineer with Brown & Root Construction and Avondale Ship Yard. Charles also spent time as an educator and coach at Bastrop High School and at Dubach High School and retired from being an apartment manager. Charles has been very active and involved in church life everywhere he has lived, last being Cook Baptist Church in Ruston, LA.Charles is preceded in death by both his parents and his sisters, Annetta Colvin and Lesca Garland. Charles is survived by the love of his life, and best friend for 51 years, wife Marcia Ruth Gentry Colvin; sons Ed Colvin and wife Kelli of Ruston, Louisiana; John Colvin and wife Beth of Tallahassee, Florida; Gil Colvin of Ruston, Louisiana; grandchildren Joshua and Bethany Colvin of Ruston, Louisiana; Ainsley and Cora Colvin of Tallahassee, Florida; brother, Billy Harry Colvin and wife Janie of Nashville, Tennessee; sister Marian Roberts of Smackover, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.In his free time, Charles enjoyed gardening, collecting, and tinkering. As a patriot, he loved the United States and was proud of the time he served his country. Professionally, he attempted to make everyone and everything in his circle of influence better. When it came to family, Charles was loving and happiest when everyone was able to be together under one roof. Looking ahead to this time, he laid a tremendous legacy for his wife, sons, and grandchildren. Above all these and in all these, Charles loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, putting Him first and most in his life. The family wishes to express gratitude to the Veterans Association, the entire staffs of Northeast Louisiana War Veterans' Home, Ringgold Nursing & Rehab, and St. Francis Critical Care Unit for the care they provided to Charles.A memorial service for Charles E. Colvin Jr., adored husband, father, and grandfather will be held at a later date with interment to follow at Bernice Cemetery in Bernice, Louisiana.
