Emerson Etherige Oaks III, K5CET passed away at home on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe with Rev. Jeff Luellen officiating. Interment will follow at Butler Cemetery in Calhoun. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Emerson enlisted in the United States Navy at age 16 and was a World War II veteran. He retired after 25 years as a communications engineer for the Louisiana Forestry Commission. Emerson was an avid singer in gospel quartets, enjoyed driving limousines for special events after his retirement, and was Ham Radio Operator K5CET. He was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church, Barak Shrine Temple, Blessed Assurance Quartet, a founding member of the Louisiana Passion Play, and fixer of all things. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Sims Oaks. Emerson is survived by his wife Lane Russell Oaks; son Emerson Butch Oaks IV and wife Rebekah; grandchildren Tonya Oaks Smith and husband Keith, Emerson Oaks V, Kristen Oaks-White and husband Landon; great-granddaughter Rebekah Smith; step-children Jonan Tyson and husband Robin Ray, Penny Crist and husband Bubba; and step-grandchildren Dustin Hemphill and wife Gina, Priscilla Turner, Traci McWilliams, Johnny Hemphill and wife Tracy; and a host of great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tim Redmond, Bobby Parker, Jerry Howell, Terry Collie, G. W. Frantom and Roy Kennedy. Honorary pallbearer will be Pete Terry.
