Funeral services for Estha Elizabeth Brooks Calhoun, 97, of Calhoun, LA will be 2:00PM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe with Rev. Richard Earl Brooks and Rev. Tony Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Alabama Presbyterian Cemetery, Sibley, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe. Mrs. Calhoun was born June 1, 1914 on the Claiborne Road in Calhoun, Louisiana. She passed away August 10, 2011. Estha was married to Archie Calhoun and enjoyed fifty six years of marriage. As a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church, she was always involved in church activities, whether it was bible school, W.M.U., or teaching Sunday School. Estha is preceded in death by her husband Archie Calhoun; her siblings Bruce Brooks, Earl Brooks, and Sybil Brooks Coker; and her parents Howard and Pearl Brooks. She is survived by her sons Archie David Calhoun and wife Lili, and Michael Lane Calhoun and wife Sandra; and grandchildren Terri Lynn Calhoun, Tim Calhoun and wife Joanie, and Toby Calhoun; and great grandchildren Connor Catcher and Matthew Calhoun.. Pallbearers are Jimmy Brooks, Larry Estep, Bruce Brooks, III, Rob Brooks, James Diel, and Hugh Calhoun, Jr. Visitation is 5:00PM to 8:00PM Friday, August 13, 2011 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. A special thanks to West Monroe Guest House and Nikki, her hospice nurse, for taking such good care of our mother and grandmother.

Yesterday memories of my childhood involve Estha, Doris, Golda, and Freddieme; through the rough spots of living in a rural area during the depression. Family, neighbors, and friends had to pull together and make life livable; as the fellows were off at war, the women had to hold down the fort and continue making the farm productive. One could always count upon Estha, my cousin, for a smile, a joke, and when the four of us were together always a song.. a song that will live within my memory.

Aunt Estha is now being welcomed to her everlasting home in Heaven with all of her loving family members and friends who have gone on before her. She will always hold a very special place in my heart. It is wonderful that she lived such a full life and was such a blessing to so many people in her 97 years on this Earth. What a great tribute to a wonderful lady and friend? Her memory will last forever!
