Hellas M. Potter, 103 years young, of Ruston, LA, was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Born to Albert and Ruby Gunter in Shelby County, Texas on October 28, 1913, she developed an outstanding sense of humor, which she got from her dad, Pop. She married Paul Potter in 1931 and became a widow in 1956. She devoted her life to raising three boys, Gene, Jack, and Jan. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandma Potter was a particularly special grandma to all her grandchildren. She worked as a bookkeeper for a school system and then a transport company for many years until her retirement at 73. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and treasured visiting with her church family. They loved her back just as much. She lived through 17 presidents.She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Ruby Gunter; her brother, Bruce; son, Jan Potter; and her husband, Paul. She is survived by her brother, June; her sons: Gene and his wife, Natalia, and Jack and his wife, Trudy: her five grandchildren: David and his wife, Stacy; Deborah Johnson and her husband, Philip; Alex, Lee, and Karen; her two nephews, Ken and Steve and his wife Judy; four great-grandchildren, Sterling, Andrew, April, and Jacob; and special friend and employer, Clayton Farr, his wife and family. Visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA on Saturday, April 1st, at 1 pm with the Memorial Service to follow at 2 pm.
