Celebration of life services for James Lloyd Doc Land, 94, will be held Monday, December 8, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Douglas United Methodist Church in Choudrant with the Reverend Jeremy Jones officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. Interment will follow at the Douglas Cemetery in Choudrant under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.Doc was born in Arcadia, LA on July 30, 1920 and went to be with his Lord in Heaven on December 5, 2014, after a brief illness with his family by his side.Doc was a life-long resident of Choudrant and a member of the Douglas United Methodist Church. He graduated from Choudrant High School in 1940. Doc retired from the Louisiana Department of Highway in 1982. Prior to working for the state, he owned a Mobile service station in Choudrant, LA for many years. Doc served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in November of 1945.Doc and his wife, Freddie, enjoyed dancing and were members of the Wheeler Dealer Square Dance Club. They enjoyed attending any activity that involved their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.Doc is survived by his wife of 73 years, Freddie Maxine Pipes Land; three daughters, Joyce Kay Smith and husband Bobby, Judy Harris and husband Roger, Mary Helen Jones and husband Billy; one son, Mike Land and wife Dana, all of Choudrant.Eight grandchildren, Robby Smith, Joey Smith, Stephanie Welch and husband Rusty, Tim Smith and wife Angie, Kristi Theodos and husband Tim, Brad Jones and wife Jody, Nikki Land, and Matt Land and wife Jamie, all of Choudrant.Eighteen great-grandchildren: Garrett Smith, Katie Smith Nicholson and husband Jordan, Dillon Smith and wife Kim, Brooke Welch, Kelby Smith, Taylor Smith, Kendall Smith, Bobbi Smith, Kade Theodos, Connor Smith, Jordan Jones, Landry Duke, Hough Smith, Braden Jones, Briley Jones, Gracie Duke, Matlan Land and Eli Land.He is also survived by his sister, Betty Land Martin and husband Ted of Magee, Mississippi, brother-in-law, Jake Pipes and wife Barbara of Choudrant, and numerous nieces and nephews.Doc is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Wes and Kathleen Kendall Land, brothers, Ben Land, Joe Land and Jack Land and sister, Louise Stockard.Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Douglas United Methodist Church Playground Fund or the Douglas Cemetery.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com
