JAMES WESLEY GEISLER, M.D., 92, died Tuesday, January 13, 2022 at Christus Highland Medical Center, Shreveport, LA.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Geisler of Bossier City, LA; 5 children, sons, James Wesley Geisler, Jr. and wife Helen of Hammond, LA, and Jeff Aycock and wife Sherri of West Monroe, LA; Daughters, Cindy Geisler Dona and husband Grant of Monroe, LA, Leighanne Geisler Burns and husband Darren of Killian, LA, and Mary Flo Geisler Boleneus and husband Pete of McKinney, TX; 11 grandchildren: James W Geisler, III, Frank R Geisler, Thia Geisler Thompson, Jill Dona Jacobs, Laura Dona, Kristi Kamerman Robert, Robert Kamerman, Kali Burns Meche, David Douglas, Catherine Douglas Fritz, and Allison Douglas; 14 great-grandchildren: Sophie Geisler, Betsy Geisler, James W. Geisler, IV, Grace Amar Dunn, Ainsley Lewis, Ethan Bernard, Moses Mandel Thompson, Persephone Mandel Thompson, Rome Robert, Rhodes Robert, Wright Robert, Dublin Kamerman, Gabriel Meche and Everett Fritz; many other cherished family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Holloway Geisler and his former wife and friend, Betty Geisler Siekman.
James Wesley Geisler was born in Corinth, MS where he decided to become a physician at a young age. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1953 and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1955. He was an intern and a resident at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS from 1955- 1957. From 1957-1959 he served in the U.S. Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Dr. Geisler came to St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA, where he practiced pathology for many years and upon retirement, found he missed his work and moved to LSUHSC/Monroe where he continued to practice pathology and was a Professor of Medicine.
When not working, Dr. Geisler was an avid hunter and fisherman having learned to appreciate nature from his uncle, Elgin Wright. He passed his love of the outdoors on to his children and grandchildren. Dr. Geisler was content, liked his work and enjoyed his family. When asked about his life, he said, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Funeral services for Dr. Geisler will be held at 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe. Pastor John Mabry will officiate and burial will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
