Jean Carroll Dean Hood was born on Dean Road, May 28, 1937, passed away August 30, 2022, peacefully at her home (childhood through death) in Farmerville, Louisiana. She loved to overlook the back pasture reminiscing about her father working the land, her beloved sons playing and later Kenny, along with Juan, cutting and baling hay.
A graduate of Farmerville High School, Class of 1955, Jean lived in Monroe attending “Form Business School”. Upon graduation, she was employed by Ouachita Bank until 1961 when she and Bobby Banks moved to Oklahoma City, OK until his untimely death in 1967. She returned home where she spent many years working for Fred Preaus and J.A. Auger at the Farmerville Chip Mill. Jean pursued a dream to own a business by purchasing Thelma’s Flower Shop with her sister Patty, renaming it The Dean of Flowers. Jean continued sole ownership of the Dean of Flowers until March 2006 when she retired to travel. As a Master Florist (TX A&M), Jean took great pride in her floral designs – she enjoyed the customers, the designers, and staff, as well as the affiliates. Many of whom she received as family. She was treasurer for NELA Floral Association, Teleflora and FTD. She also served on multiple Local, State and National Boards during her tenure. She was a faithful supporting member of Franklin Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years as well as having served as Secretary and Treasurer.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband(s), Robert (Bobby) Banks (1967) and William (Billy) Hood (2018); parents William Lavelle and Ruby Allen Dean; sister-in-law Carrie Dean and beloved sister Patty Dean Hayes. She is survived by her brother, William Lavelle Dean, Jr and brother-in-law, Paul Hayes; children, Lane Banks of Dallas, Texas, Randy Banks (Donna) of Spearsville, LA, Kenny Cobb (Leslie) of Farmerville, LA, Allison Mazzola (Anthony) of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Danielle Fuller (Daniel), Tyler Banks (Reva), Shelby Banks, Claire Cobb Beaird (Grant), Casey Cobb, Jackson Wesley Thomas; great grandchildren, Cody, Breanna and Natalie Fuller, and Jaxon Paul Smith.
