Jeremy Coates, husband, father, and native resident of Ouachita Parish, LA died unexpectedly in Wilkerson, Mississippi on February 27, 2023 at the age of 44 while doing what he loved, transporting pets for his business, Pet Taxi HQ.
Jeremy is survived by his wife, Angel Coates; his 2 daughters, Isabella and Faith Coates; his mother, Brenda McPhearson and spouse, Rick McPhearson; his father, Eugene Coates and spouse, Dianne Coates; and his grandmothers Barbara Kennedy and Christene Cathey. He was an only child for 20 years, but gained 6 beloved step-sisters over time: Alexis Stone, Ashley Thomas, Laila Coates, Rachel McClure, Abigail Tily, and Molly McPhearson. He is preceded by his grandfathers, Billy Jack Kennedy and James Matthew Coates.
Jeremy was born in Monroe on September 10, 1978 to Brenda McPhearson and Eugene Coates. Just two years after graduating from West Ouachita High School, he married his soul mate, Angel Coates, on May 22, 1999. Together for a total of 24 years, he and Angel raised and doted on his two daughters, the eldest, Isabella Rose Coates, and the youngest, Faith Angel Coates. Jeremy and Angel also raised and fostered many other children that were not their own in blood, but still their children nonetheless. He was a Godly, patriotic man and led his family as such. Jeremy showed his love through compassionate actions and seemed to have an endless supply of jokes to make everyone laugh. His sarcastic sense of humor was often an acquired taste, but those who knew him, loved him.
Throughout Jeremy’s life, he was a scholar of animals. From reptiles to canine’s, his knowledge, care, and compassion for them was unprecedented. Jeremy was well-known in the Miniature Schnauzer and pet community. He loved his fur babies. He felt that the word, “dog”, was unkind, and corrected others who referred to them as such.
For his 2023 New Year’s resolution, Jeremy promised to call his girls beautiful every single day, and he did just that with the biggest and cheesiest smile to make them laugh. He was a committed husband who never missed an opportunity to share his love with Angel. Jeremy will be missed beyond measure by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
