Our dear mother was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was kind, intelligent and witty. JoAnn was a lifelong member of First Methodist Church. She will always be remembered for her servant’s heart. Our mother took great pride and delight in her 26 years of volunteering for her church, First Methodist Pumpkin Patch each year. Reading to the school kids who would come on field trips to visit the Pumpkin Patch brought her so much joy.
In 1954 she graduated from Neville High School where she was involved in the Annual Book Staff, F.B.L.A., Future Homemakers, Tigerettes, Glee Club and Softball. In 1960 she graduated from Northeast Louisiana State College (ULM) with her BA degree in Elementary Education. She later attained a Masters in education plus 30 degree. During college she was also an N.L.S.C. cheerleader.JoAnn was a dedicated educator for the Monroe City School System for 41 years. Most of those years were spent at Sallie Humble Elementary where she taught 1st grade. Our mother was an amazing teacher who was dearly loved and admired by her students, fellow teachers, and school staff employees.
JoAnn was very involved in numerous activities with her church and organizations throughout her community. She was a dedicated member of the teacher’s sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota (KKI) for 58 years. For 30 years Jo Ann immensely enjoyed being associated with the Miss Louisiana Organization as hostess. The Ouachita Parish Women’s Republican Club (OPWRC) was another organization where JoAnn was a loyal member for 27 years. She served in leadership positions such as President and Historian.
Mama Jo will be sorely missed by her family. We love you more, more, more and to the moon and back!!!!
