Dr. Amy Vessel left a message on July 2, 2017:
Dr. Joy Lowe was an inspiring educator that taught me many life lessons from the day she walked into a Woodard Hall classroom to teach me children's literature in the spring of 1990. It is such an honor to teach that same LSCI 201 class today where I acknowledge her each quarter, passing on the love of children's books that Dr. Lowe shared with me. She was one of the kindest and most generous people I've ever known. I am absolutely heartbroken that I cannot attend her funeral, but I'm keeping all of you in my prayers for much comfort and peace during this difficult time.

I first met Joy at Curves when a whole group of ladies exercised regularly; then I discovered we shared the same birthday and our relationship was even more special. She was quite a lady and very witty. Perry and she are now together in Heaven.

Dr. Lowe helped me graduate from LA Tech when other faculty wouldn't. I'll always be grateful for her kindness and turning me on to children's literature. A great and funny lady. Prayers for the family.
