Louise Hodge Dollar, 83, passed away December 13, 2017 at The West Monroe Guest House. A memorial service celebrating the life of Louise will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, 1321 N 7th St., West Monroe, LA. The family will receive guest from 1:00 pm until service time. Pastor Bill Cornelius of Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, LA will officiate the service.Louise was born on March 15, 1934 in Panama City, Florida to David Daniel Hodge, Sr. and Agnes Hodge. Louise married Robert L. Dollar in 1951 and had three sons. She had resided in the Monroe/West Monroe, LA area since 1975 and was associated with Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, LA.Louise was a 1951 graduate of Gretna High School where she excelled in many sports. She was named All-District in basketball, volleyball, and softball. After graduation, Louise received an offer to play basketball with the All-American Red Heads, a barnstorming women professional team of that era, but chose to be married and start a family. For the next 22 years Louise was a devoted stay-at-home mom.Louise began her professional career at Alexandria Hearing Aid Center in Alexandria, LA in 1973. The Dollar family then moved to Monroe, LA in 1975 after she accepted the position of Manager at Wroten Hearing Aid Center. The following year Louise and husband Bob started Monroe Hearing Aid Service (MHAS) which would continue to serve the hearing impaired in the Northeast LA area for 39 years.During this time Louise and her staff at MHAS helped so many with hearing issues. She greatly appreciated the opportunity to improve lives with better hearing and received her greatest satisfaction from helping children with severe hearing loss. Louise was appointed to the Louisiana Board for Hearing Aid Dealers by three Louisiana Governors (Edwin Edwards, Buddy Roemer and Dave Treen) and served as board president. She also was a member and past-president of the Quota Club in Monroe, LA. Louise retired in 2014 after 41 years of professional service.Oh what a gift of gardening Louise had! Her magic green thumb was so evident when visiting her beautifully landscaped yard. Another hobby of Louise was her impressive collection of giraffe memorabilia. Her lifelong collection is unmatched; consisting of countless giraffe specialty items and figurines. Louise also loved to bowl! She was an extremely talented bowler, participating in several bowling leagues through the years. She had so many great times with friends during her bowling days.Louise will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her three sons, all of West Monroe, LA: Dennis Dollar; Doug Dollar and wife Pam; Dru Dollar and wife Cindy. Grandchildren: Allison Dollar; Stu Dollar and wife Madison; Savannah Parker and husband Sam; Sam Dollar; and Alana Dollar; and great-granddaughter Lena Dollar; sister Ginnie Briley and husband Nolin of Diamond Head, MS; and cousin Marilyn Holland and husband Jim of Houston, TX .
