Funeral services for Martha Carolyn Upshaw Stinson 81, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in West Monroe. Rev. John Tellifero will officiate. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Ed Walker Stinson, Jr.; her parents, Elton and Irene Spencer Upshaw; her stepmother, Minnie Maxwell Upshaw; special aunt and uncle Paul and Eva Spencer Dean; her brother, Elton Jefferson Upshaw, Jr.; and her sister, Dr. Catherine Dean Vaughan. She is survived by her children; Ed Walker Stinson, III and his wife, Denise Hutson Stinson of Ruston, Paul Spencer Stinson and his wife, Karen Ledoux Stinson of Monroe; daughter, Andrea Elizabeth Stinson of West Monroe and special niece, Janet Vaughan Fisher of Monroe; grandchildren, Paige Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Jason, Olivia Leigh Stinson, Mattie Louise Stinson, Anne Kathryn Stinson and Walker Paul Stinson; two great grandchildren, Dawson Scott Sills and Parkes Elizabeth Smith; sister, Rosemary Upshaw Ewing and her husband, Randy; and sister-in-law, Dr. Martha Jane Upshaw Anderson; numerous nieces and nephews and her special dog, Arabella. Martha was a member of the Junior Charity League of Monroe and the Daughters of the American Revolution DAR. She had also previously served on the Board of Trustees for both the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home and Louisiana College. Martha was a graduate of Baylor University. She was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe. Pallbearers will be Hodge Garrett, Steve Fisher, Dr. David Osafo, Tom Hutson, Winston Landry, Charles Davis, Randy Ewing and Walker Paul Stinson. Honorary pallbearers will be from the Ed Stinson Sunday School class from First United Methodist Church of West Monroe, Charles Bedgood and Don Britt. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 9:00 am until service time at the church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Stinson's caregiver, Keisha Simmons for her care throughout the year.
