Funeral services for Michael Meeks, 65, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Bro. Bruce Rollins will officiate and the Eulogy will be given by Jake Cavanaugh. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Calhoun, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. A visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe.
Mike was born on Saturday, October 17, 1959, and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 1:05 P.M., surrounded by family. Mike retired as District Chief from Monroe City Fire Department after 33 plus years of serving the community following in the footsteps of his father and uncle. He was also known to his hunting buddies, as Fireman, as he was an avid outdoors man and trophy buck killer. Mike was one of the biggest LSU Fans you would ever meet. His favorite saying on game day whether it was football or baseball was “Here We GEAUX”. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Mary C. Meeks; father, John D. Meeks; grandson and best buddy, Gage Michael Meeks; son-in-law, Bobby Sanford; father-in-law, Juan Gonzalez; nephew, Jake Porter; and great granddaughter, Bobbie Elizabeth Andrews.
Mike is survived by his high school sweetheart, Anita Meeks and they just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by daughter, Melissa Meeks Sanford; sons, John Meeks and Reggie Meeks; grandchildren, Morgan Andrews (Slade), Lilly Meeks Sanford, Kylie Sanford, Kingston Fowler Sanford, Mary Meeks, Michala Meeks, Sawyer Meeks, and Ashyr Meeks; great-grandchildren, Hudson Andrews, Scarlett Andrews and Grayson Andrews, expected to arrive in August 2025; mother-in-law, Tomasa Gonzalez; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his Baton Rouge family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Geremy LeBourgeois, Johnny Gonzalez, Tim Landry, Slade Andrews, Larry Maxey and Michael Rollins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Spiller, Lilly Meeks Sanford, Sawyer Meeks and Ashyr Meeks.
The family would like to extend a special thank to the Monroe City Fire Department, Dr. Kenneth Metoyer and his nurse, Kim Parker, the Neuro ICU nursing staff at Oshners Hospital Shreveport, especially Jed, Joshua, Kal and Brandi and the Respiratory Therapists, Ms. Brenda and Ms. Gail and Caring Hands Hospice.
