Heaven gained an angel Nelda Carter Watson on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 12:30PM
Visitation for Nelda will be Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 12 noon until 1:30 PM at Kilpatrick’s Funeral Home, 1321 North 7th Street, West Monroe.
A graveside service for Nelda, formerly of Vinton, VA will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens, 8729 Cypress Street, West Monroe, LA 71291 with Dr. Woods Watson officiating. Nelda was 99 years old at the time of her death. She was born on Feb. 9, 1922 in Roanoke, VA. She moved to West Monroe in 2000 with her husband, Gordon Lee Watson, to be closer to her family.
Nelda was a registered nurse by profession, having graduated from nursing school in 1943 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Once arriving in West Monroe, she and Gordon joined First West-West Monroe Campus and Nelda began volunteering her time working at First West Thrift Store. She totaled over 400 hours of volunteer work each year.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gordon Lee Watson; daughter Nelda Lee Peek and great-great grandchild Leah Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Dearman and her husband Marvin, son-in-law Perry Peek, sister Edna McCarty; six grand-children, Aletha Thompson and husband Todd, Rodney Pagans and wife Karla, Paige Dearman, Chad Dearman and wife Jennifer, David Dearman and wife Megan and Tammy Lee Salter; 8 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and nieces, Frances McCarty and spouse Lisa Lee, Vickie and Jimmy Myers; nephew Kenny Lee and Frances Carter.
A special thank you to the staff at Ridgecrest Nursing Home. Nelda was there for 5 years and it was her “happy place”, Passages Hospice of Monroe took special care of her in her last days and they were just wonderful to her.
