Patricia Cochran died on Friday, April 13, after a courageous fight against multiple myeloma.  Patricia Diane Brown was born on October 29, 1941, in Shreveport to parents, Mattie Boggs and Ernest William Brown.

Patricia was educated in schools in Sarepta, LA and graduated with degrees in Mathematics and Education from Louisiana Tech University.  After Tech, following in her parents’ footsteps, she began a long career in education teaching mathematics, initially in Port Arthur, TX.

Subsequently she returned to north Louisiana and married Carrol Wayne Cochran.  She taught math in Cotton Valley and in Springhill public schools before moving to Ruston where she taught at Cedar Creek School and Ruston High School, the latter for 31 years.

As a teacher, Patricia will be remembered for her dedication to her profession, the standards of excellence she set for her students, and her enjoyment of helping others to learn.  She loved math and taught higher mathematics and developmental math but she also loved technology, reading the instruction manuals for her various devices as some might read a novel.

In her last years at Ruston High, as the most senior faculty member, she was teaching computer classes.  After retiring in 2015, she enjoyed spending time with her two grandsons and also helping frustrated friends understand and master their computers and smart phones.  She was determined to help them become proficient.  Patricia was an avid collector of antique napkin rings and knife rests.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Ruston.

Patricia is predeceased by her parents.  Survived by her husband of 52 years, Carrol; son, Brandon and wife Audrey; grandsons, Conrad and Carlyle of San Francisco, CA; brother, Bill Brown and wife Sarah, also of San Francisco.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, at First Baptist Church of Ruston with a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM followed by the funeral at 3 o’clock.  Dr. Chris Craig will officiate.  Interment will follow at Kilpatrick Memorial Gardens, (formerly Pines Memorial Gardens), 1270 Highway 544, Ruston.

Pallbearers will be Richard Anderson, Casey Blalock, Otis Gilley, Brian Reeves, Brian Smith, David Smith, Robert Smith, and Zach Yates.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Children’s Building Fund; the Patricia Brown Cochran Scholarship in Math Education at Louisiana Tech University in her honor; or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
