A Celebration of Life Service for Rachel Lea Walker will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, in the Sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Rachel was born September 23, 1975, in Monroe, Louisiana, and passed away, July 19, 2019. She grew up in Winnfield, Louisiana, and married Jason Walker, also of Winnfield, on July 11, 1998. Their daughter Kate was born in June, 2003. Rachel’s greatest love was her family.
Rachel is survived by her husband of 21 years Jason; daughter Kate; parents Helene and Jimmy Walker; parents-in-law Chris and Bo Walker; her brother Drew; brother-in-law Kevin; sister- and brother-in-law Joliene and Ruddy Sosa; nieces Piper Sosa, Dottie Walker, and nephew Walker Sosa.
Rachel graduated from Winnfield Senior High School in 1993. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Northeast Louisiana University in 1997 and was accomplished in her profession, having worked for several regional and national companies and most recently as Chief Administrative Officer for Hunt Guillot and Associates in Ruston.
Rachel was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served on the finance committee and also co-led a small group of strong and sassy 11thand 12thgrade girls. Rachel and Amy Stegall have loved and offered guidance to these girls since they were in 7th grade.
Friends of Rachel were frequent recipients of her beautiful smile, sharp wit and infectious laughter. Rachel ensured that her family and friends were loved and cherished. Being loved by Rachel was a wonderful gift, and she will be greatly missed.
Rachel was an advocate for families living with Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA), the condition which affects her daughter Kate. Her desire was to help individuals and families with FA and other rare diseases. To fulfill Rachel’s dream, the Walker family is creating the Make it Happen Foundation, that will support the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), as well as individuals affected by FA and other rare diseases. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana, 8337 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA, 70809, writing “Make it Happen” in the memo portion of the check.
