We are sad to announce the passing of Richard Evans, of Monroe, LA, on February 15, 2023 at his home having just been surrounded by family and friends. Richard, nicknamed Dick, was born to Frederick and Dorothy Evans on September 9, 1933, in Youngstown, Ohio. Richard began his career in the US Army before returning to school to receive a master’s degree in oceanography at Florida State University. This led to a job in the Washington, D.C. area where he became interested in coaching youth sports teams spending countless hours coaching multiple seasons of Boys Club football, Little League baseball and serving as local Boys Club Commissioner. In addition to coaching, Dad heartily enjoyed the outdoors. From the campgrounds of the Great Smoky Mountains and Cape Hatteras shores, to hiking Old Rag Mountain and parts of the Appalachian Trail, he loved traveling with the family and the pop up camper. He would later get the running bug and enter multiple 5K/10K road races, infecting other family members along the way. Memories from five sons could fill volumes but the best memory of all is why we can celebrate your passing…knowing that you are in His eternal presence with friends and family and can now complete your struggles filling in the family genealogy tree.
Richard is preceded in death by his brother Peter, son Randy, and the love of his life, his wife Joida, of almost 67 years. He is survived by his sons Mitchell, David, John, and Jason. If anyone should feel so led, donating a Bible in memory of Richard to the Gideon’s or Bible League is appreciated.
