Ruth Chevalier MashawEarly on the spring morning of April the 20th, 2019, Ruth Chevalier Mashaw left her earthly home and returned to her heavenly home.Mrs. Mashaw was born on August 17, 1934 in Gilmer, Texas. When Ruth was a young girl, her parents, Foy and Geneva Chevalier, moved their family to Freeport, Texas where she loved spending time at the beach. She graduated from Brazosport High School and Draughon Business School in Houston. Ruth enjoyed her independent life by buying her own car and working in the Purchasing Department at Dow Chemical Company.After being introduced to Sam Mashaw by her Aunt Dollie, they began a long distance romance and married on February 14, 1959. Her married life in Farmerville revolved around her family and church. She was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as Seminary teacher, Primary President, librarian, pianist, chorister, and many various callings.She became affectionately called Granny by several generations of her posterity. She loved music and could be heard playing her piano daily. She also loved going to softball games in the summer and watching basketball in the winter. She was an excellent cook and loved canning fruits and vegetables. Ruth passion for reading centered around Church, American, and World history. She enjoyed working puzzles, singing, and was an avid television watcher. For their last anniversary together, Ruth and Sam went to a Celtic Thunder Concert. She watched Celtic Thunder shows almost nightly for the past 4 years.Ruth is preceded in death by Sam Mashaw, her husband of 56 years; her parents, Foy Chevalier and Geneva Ward Chevalier Aulds; and brother, Larry Chevalier.She is survived by daughters Lori Varner and husband Bo of Farmerville, LA; Joni Mashaw of Farmerville, LA; and Holly Mashaw of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Brian Varner and wife Catherine, Heather Floyd and husband Chris, Jenna Grice and husband Kelly; great grandchildren, Drew, Brenna, and Alexandra Varner, Alexis, Kayden, Conner, and Allie Floyd, Cameron and Bralyn Grice; devoted sister and principal caretaker, Gail Chevalier of Farmerville, LA; aunt, Thurza Blackshear and uncle, Azell Chevalier, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Chevalier Mashaw, age 84, of Farmerville, LA will be held on Tuesday, April 23,2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville.
