Virginia Bailey Selle, 95, passed away peacefully at her home on December 4, 2018. Services will be held Saturday, December 8 at Temple Baptist Church at 2 PM. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM prior to the service in the chapel. A private interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Rev. Dale Oden will officiate the services.Virginia was born October 23, 1923 in Junction City, LA to Ellis and Rosa Lee Bailey. The family moved to Ruston, LA in 1927. Virginia was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church.Virginia met Earl Kenneth Selle in 1944 while he was attending Naval Officers School at LA Tech. They were married August 12, 1944 and remained together until his death in 1992. They made their home in Ruston and enjoyed many trips to Kenneth childhood home in Hood River, OR.Virginia was a graduate of LA Tech with 5 degrees including Masters in Education and Special Education. She was a longtime educator in Lincoln Parish teaching 9 years at Hillcrest Elementary School as the first special education teacher in the parish. In 1967 she became Remedial Reading and Special Education Supervisor remaining in that position until her retirement in 1991. Virginia was a strong advocate for the education of all children, especially those with special needs.Membership in the Pierian Club was a passion for Virginia. She held many positions in the club, but she particularly enjoyed working in the Rose Garden established and maintained by the club.In her retirement years, Virginia enjoyed her travels around the world cultivating many friendships and memories.Above all Virginia enjoyed the love and respect of her family. She devoted countless hours to meeting the needs of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents: Ellis and Rose Lee Bailey; sister Marjorie Parkman; brother Billy Joe Bailey; and great grandson Brayton James Whitten.Virginia is survived by her brother Ellis Carroll Bailey (Dale); daughters: Sandra S. Bice Richardson, Janet S. Whitten (Richard), and Susan S. Cagnolatti (David); grandchildren: Rebecca Bice Huff, Ronnie Whitten, Jenna Whitten Lehman, Cindy Whitten Graham, Kelly Cagnolatti Easterling, Chris Cagnolatti; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom were very special to her.Pallbearers will be Tristen Huff, Ronnie Whitten, Adam Graham, Blain Lehman, Chris Cagnolatti, Bill Easterling, and Doug Olive.Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, Rolling Hills Ministry, or the charity of choice.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
