Friday February 22, 2008 Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Ruston, Louisiana Officiating the service will be The Very Reverend Paula Clair Hall, Reverend Douglas L. McGuire and Reverend Fred Wideman Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under the Direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of RustonMrs. Marbury passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at her home following a recent illnessVirginia Lomax Marbury was born on June 25, 1918, in Ruston Louisiana. She is the daughter of Della Southern Lomax and Dallas Daniel Lomax. Della Southern Lomax was born and raised in Bienville Parish. Dallas Daniel Lomax was born and raised in Simsboro, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.Virginia Lomax graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the School of Music, in 1936. She was very proud that her grandfather George Madden Lomax sponsored the legislation that founded Louisiana Tech University. Following graduation from Louisiana Tech University, she enrolled in Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, in September, 1936. In June of 1938, she received her Degree in Music from Louisiana State University. Immediately after graduation from Louisiana State University, she accepted a teaching position with the Iberia Parish School Board in New Iberia, Louisiana , and she taught music in that Parish from 1938 until 1942. In 1942 she accepted a position in the Music Department of Ruston High School, and se taught music at Ruston High School form 1942 to 1943.On September 5, 1943 Virginia Lomax married William Ardis Marbury, Jr.On March 1, 1944 Mrs. Marbury, along with her husband, organized and established William A. Marbury & Company, Inc., managing General Agents, and this Corporation over a period of years, achieved the record of being the largest General Agency in the State of Louisiana, and one of the largest in the entire South, writing over $25 million in premiums annually.On July 5, 1959, Mr. & Mrs. Marbury and their associates, organized Bankers Life of Louisiana, which eventually became the largest credit life writer in the State of Louisiana, and that company was one of the few Louisiana domiciled companies that enjoyed an ?A? rating with Alfred M. Best & Company of New York.Mrs. Marbury served as a Director of the Homer National Bank in Homer, Louisiana, for a period of 14 years, from 1964 through 1978.In 1987 Mrs. Marbury was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Louisiana Tech University.In the year 1987 both Mr. & Mrs. Marbury were named ?Insurance Persons of the Year? by the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of CPCU organization.At the Spring 1991 graduation exercise at Louisiana Tech University, Mrs. Marbury was presented with the Tower Medallion Award, and this honor is bestowed annually upon a graduate of the University who has distinguished himself or herself in their particular field of endeavor, along with service they have rendered to the University.In 1894, Louisiana Tech University celebrated its Centennial Anniversary, having been established in 1984. Both Mr. and Mrs. Marbury were honored by being selected as members of the 100 distinguished graduates of the University, Out of 63,000.On January 28, 1995, the Louisiana Tech Alumni Association established the William A. Marbury and Virginia Lomax Marbury Scholarship Fund to the awarded annually to the deserving children of the Alumni of the University.On October 19, 1996 the Alumni Center, at Louisiana Tech University, was renamed the ?Marbury Center? to honor the Marbury family.The family would like to say thank you to special caregivers Mrs. LaTonyna Jackson, Mrs. Dorothy Jones, Mrs. Sylvia Simonton, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Blake, Agape hospice Service, Mrs. Kathy Spears, Angel Care of Louisiana, Inc. , Dr. J. She is survived by Daughter: Rebekah Marbury Napper, and husband Lue Charles Napper; Grandson: Lomax Bailey Napper and wife Misty McClintock Napper: Daughter Caroline Ardis Marbury, Grandaughter Virginia Elizabeth Smart, and Grandson William Samuel Smart.
